KC Stampede: Oklahoma Girls Recap

Eight Oklahoma girls wrestling teams made the trek to Missouri to compete in the annual Kansas City Stampede this weekend at Bartle Hall.

This is a tournament that features some of the best teams from the Midwest and even other areas of the United States The prestigious tournament featured teams from Arizona, Tennessee, Georgia, Oklahoma, Iowa, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, New Mexico, Alabama and Kansas.

Even while going against some stiff competition, Edmond North was the top girls team as it finished in fifth place with 143.5 points. Little Axe took sixth with 112 points and Harrah was seventh with 103.

Below is a summary of the top girls finishers in Oklahoma in each weight class and a list of the top eight placers:

100: Westmore sophomore Kyrain Perez won her first three matches to make it to the semifinal of her bracket before being pinned by Troy Buchanan’s Zoey Haney. She then went 1-1 in the consolation bracket and lost to Baylor’s Ryleigh Stugill 4-0 in the third-place bout. 

Top placers:

1st: Lilly Breeden, Liberty

2nd: Zoey Haney, Troy Buchnan

3rd: Ryleigh Sturgill, Baylor (Tenn.)

4th: Kyrain Perez Westmoore (Okla.)

5th: Joanne Dinh, Staley

6th: Taylor Reiter, Timberland

7th: Alissa Perez, Klein (Texas)

8th: Anjelica Morales, Little Axe (Okla.)

105: Harrah sophomore Addie Moore was victorious in her first four matches, including a 4-2 overtime win against Nixa’s Kelsey Watts in the semifinals. In the finals, she led 4-2 against Liberty’s Sandy Breeden late in the third, but gave up an escape and a takedown to fall 5-4.

110: Westmore senior Mariah Robbins was dominant in her first three matches, which all ended in a fall. Her pin in 58 seconds against Liberty’s Jaden Breeden set up a finals match with Fort Osage senior Aroma Marrufo, which Robbins lost 9-0 as she ended up in second place.
